ABOUT US
Not Just Another Faceless dot.com...
Steel Mailbox Company is located outside Batavia
in the bucolic countryside East of Cincinnati, Ohio. Designated by Atlantic Monthly Magazine as the mailbox vandalism Capitol of the World, they sent
a writer here to find out why Cincinnati breeds so many mailbox vandals. [Read the article] I told
them, “We produced Pete Rose, didn’t we?”
Our first foray into the mailbox world was
through a company called Mailbox Crafters in 1979. These were handsome, custom made cedar mailboxes which were marketed by mail
order. At the advent of the Internet, we were one of the first online mailbox companies, offering the Veeders Mailbox, the original heavy
duty steel, vandal-resistant mailbox. Because we were in a whole new product line, we changed the company name to Steel Mailbox Company, and hence, www.SteelMailbox.com was born. The Heavybilt line of mailboxes was our next successful
product line. From there we have added many high end locking, vandal-resistant, and premium
mailboxes, in addition to CBU’s, 4C Horizontals, and drop boxes. We will continue to add the
newest, best quality mailboxes to protect your mail, resist the local vandals, and to beautify the front entry to your home.
This company is not just another faceless website. It is owned and run by me, Richard C. Lee
(pictured at right). My formal business training occurred early in life, when I sat next to Jim
Koch in Mrs. Flye’s Sixth Grade Class at Indian Hill Elementary School here in Cincinnati. Mr.
Koch went on to found the Boston Brewing Company, maker of Sam Adams Beer. I picked up a
little of Jim’s business acumen by osmosis. That was the extent of my business training when I
started Artisan Products and Steel Mailbox Company, because I’d been a Psychology major at
Duke University. Thanks Jim... You were my mentor and didn’t even know it. Also sitting next
desk over in that Sixth Grade class was the future owner of Veeders Mailbox Inc. Put these two
early influences together, and Voila! I became a mailbox businessman. I guess you could say, I
learned everything I needed to know about the mailbox business in Sixth Grade. Seriously, my
first experience with mail order mailbox marketing occurred in the late 1970’s, when I made and
marketed unique cedar mailboxes through Sunset and Yankee Magazines. By this time, Veeders
Mailboxes were being marketed around Cincinnati by Veeders Mailbox Inc.. We began offering the Veeders nationally online in the 1990’s with great success. From there, we added all the
best mailbox and drop boxes we could find.
Personalized service and attention to your special needs are top priorities for www.SteelMailbox
.com. I am joined by a small but brainy staff in this effort, among these being alumni of: Duke
University, Franklin & Marshall College, Pratt Institute, and Charles University in Prague. Our
Office Manager once was #2 in command of a governmental Ministry of a European nation. Together, we can figure out a solution for your mail or drop box needs.
