Steel Mailbox Company is located outside Batavia in
the bucolic countryside East of Cincinnati, Ohio. Designated by Atlantic Monthly Magazine as the mailbox vandalism Capitol of the World, they sent a
writer here to find out why Cincinnati breeds so many mailbox vandals. [Read the article] I told them, “We
produced Pete Rose, didn’t we?”
This company is not a faceless entity. It is owned and run by me, Richard C. Lee (pictured at right). My
formal business training occurred early in life, when I sat next to Jim Koch in Mrs. Flye’s Sixth Grade Class at Drake Road Elementary here in Cincinnati. Mr.
Koch went on to found the Boston Brewing Company, maker of Sam Adams Beer. I picked up a little of Jim’s business acumen by osmosis. That was the extent of
my business training when I started Artisan Productions and Steel Mailbox Company, because I’d been a
Psych major in college. Thanks Jim... You were my mentor and didn’t even know it.
Personalized service and attention to your special needs are top priorities for www.SteelMailbox.com. I am
joined by small but brainy staff in this effort, who are alumni of Duke University, the University of Pennsylvania,
the University of Southern California School of Law, and Charles University in Prague. We can figure out a good solution for your mail or drop box needs, I am sure.
By the way, that’s no “bat-wielding hooligan” in this animated gif making kindling over one of
our heavy duty mailboxes [Veeders]. That’s Mark Sauers of the Hamilton County [Ohio]
Prosecutor’s Office. Thank you, Mark, for showing those hooligans how it’s done when it comes to breaking a bat on a mailbox.
